Silence in the Woods

August 1st, Today’s Gift: as I came out my door early this morning for a walk I stood among 4 5-point gorgeous elk in my yard! They vibrated strength, courage, stamina and perseverance.  Wonderful gifts to embrace in our ever changing world.

Yesterday’s gift: Silence in the Woods

White fluffy clouds approach from nowhere easily carried by a soft breeze that whispers through the pines.  They provide a bright contrast against the cerulean sky behind them.  Two clouds magically merge into one shifting shapes as they do.

A pika peeps at me from his hiding place among the rocks.  These stones covered in multi-colored moss sit solidly and hold tightly to the secrets they carry and have held for centuries.  Sometimes rain falls to fill their small basins so the chipmunks, squirrels and birds can quench their thirst.

Pine cones fall silently to the ground and bounce onto a soft layer of pine needles.  Colorful butterflies flit by, again in silence.  Perhaps you can hear the flap of their wings if you listen closely enough.

A hawk’s screech draws my eyes upward to marvel at the ease with which the magnificent bird glides by observing all from on high. Does he enjoy just floating or is he seeking prey? Other birds treat me to song from nearby branches.   

Who am I? I ask.  I AM part of the Whole.  Is there no separation?  Do my roots grow deeply into the Earth like the ponderosa or shallowly like the yarrow?  I can walk lightly on the Earth and still feel my roots seeking her center, my connection, my grounding.  Feeling this connection helps me to also be healthy  and whole amid the struggle and chaos facing many in today’s wild world.  From this place I am better prepared to face my own life with optimism and gratitude for my many blessings.  I am open to the lessons of each day.  I am also empowered to assist others on their unique path as they continue their sacred journey.
